What is ABCD training?

A key component of the Healthy Smiles Kentucky initiative is a training program for dentists called Access for Babies and Children to Dentistry, or ABCD. The ABCD training will instruct general dentists on how to care for young patients, with the goal of increasing the number of dentists who treat the commonwealth’s children.

The Kentucky Oral Health Program is currently in the process of developing the ABCD training curriculum. Once complete, ABCD trainings will be scheduled in various locations and made available via Web-based training modules.

The Kentucky Oral Health Program has several important partners involved in the ABCD training program, including: the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry, the University of Louisville School of Dentistry, the Kentucky Board of Dentistry, the Kentucky Dental Association, the Kentucky Medicaid program and the Kentucky TRAIN online training network.
