IEP Services
Once a child has been identified as needing special education and related services, an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is established with the child's caregiver(s) and school professionals to assist the child in exceling in the school environment. The Department for Medicaid Services allows school districts to bill Medicaid for covered services listed in IEPs for Medicaid-enrolled children.
Expanded Access
The Department for Medicaid Services also permits school districts to bill Medicaid for services provided under Expanded Access. Expanded Access does not require IEPs for children to receive services; however, the services must be deemed medically necessary. Services provided under Expanded Access are available to all students at no cost, but school districts may bill Medicaid for services provided to Medicaid-enrolled children.
